Thoughts

I will always have fond memories of time spent with Grandpa, whether it be drinking whisky, talking about cricket, geography or what counts as a proper beer. Or finding tadpoles in the stream many years ago. I will always admire your resilience, determination and dedication to family. Mostly I will remember you as a kind gentleman and someone I will always look up to. RIP Grandpa, we will love you always xx Love from James

Where hast thou been since I saw thee, dear Mike? So many fond memories come to mind… The bond between our families, which goes a long way back. Indeed, you had become a “distant relative” of ours, as it were! I still remember how you came and “rescued” me back in 1976 (I was still a teenager back then), after my guest family had suggested for me to be put up by neighbours of theirs so that they could go on holiday. You were downright indignant and wouldn’t hear of such a scheme! My stays in the High Ash Avenue, alone first, later on with Hilde and the children or with my mom – where we were always welcomed, wined and dined like royalty. My jogging sessions there, heading for Uccles reservoir, and your invitation to use your own private bathroom afterwards, welcoming me back after my sporting session and taking care of me as if I were a veteran back from Vietnam! Your own visits to Belgium with Joy. My mom got up earlier and earlier as the week went on in a desperate attempt to see to it that breakfast was ready by the time her guests were up. She desperately failed, as you were always there first, dressed and shaven! Our last visit to Yorkshire and our plan to book at a hotel and drop by during our holiday to pay you a visit… till you heard of our project and insisted on our choosing your home instead, “the best B & B in Yorkshire” (I can concur!). A thousand thanks for all that! We shall miss you, Mike. Patrick (Miche’s brother)

Such happy memories of a remarkable man. "Uncle Mike" was probably one of the first people to meet me half a century ago.....and I have spent many happy times with the entire Wadsworth Clan....always filled with laughter and fun. He was a very special man - that taught me many things; Bring a spare set of clothes for when inevitably fall in the pond Eat as many sweets as you can before your mum catches you A bottle stop for wine is possibly the most useless invention Buying Christmas cards and presents in the January sales are only useful if you remember where you put them Family and friends are important and should be treasured Over the years, he showed the same generosity of spirit and devilment with my own family. He was a very special gentleman and we will remember him always. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam. (May his soul be on God's right hand)
