Dear Grandpa/Great Grandpa, It’s hard to know where to start when writing a tribute as I know I won’t be able to do it justice but still wanted to write down a few memories on this page… Memories which I will never forget: - Yours and Grandma’s ultimate example of the perfect marriage. I will forever look up to you both for this. - Your love for liquorice allsorts - you were always the easiest person to buy Christmas/Birthday presents for as you applied the “can’t eat it, can’t drink it, don’t want it” saying and were always happy with a box of liquorice allsorts or a bottle of whisky! - The way you always wore shorts even when it was freezing. I’m sure it couldn’t always have been comfortable but you wore them in all year round in true Yorkshireman style. - All of my early childhood memories are of you up a ladder/under a car/cutting a tree down with a chainsaw while standing in a rowing boat. You were the family go-to person for all DIY. I’ll especially remember when the boat capsized when cutting down the willow tree! - Your love for the outdoors and countless family trips to Harewood, Bolton and Fountains’ Abbey and Brimham Rocks. And of course your amazing garden with the pond (and previously stream/other pond) filled with fish and tadpoles. - Your knowledge of all things Yorkshire, especially the rivers in the Dale’s. Your love for Yorkshire clearly impacted me and, having lived here for 7 years so far, I expect and hope it will now be our forever home. I will do my best to bring Harry up to be a proud a Yorkshireman as you! - Your strong moral values and importance you placed on education and family. I will never forget the few precious times you were able to hold Harry and watch him grow in his first year. I’m so pleased you were able to come to his christening in August this year. One of our last conversations was me say you really didn’t have to be the one lifting tables whilst tidying up the day after, but true to character as always, you were determined to help and would not settle with doing any of the easier tasks. I know there are so many more memories but there is too much to put into words. Thank you for everything. Rest in peace Grandpa, we love you. Georgina, Andrew and Harry xxx
